The home is the best place to start the preparation for teen dating. This is because your teenager will base his or her expectations on the model you provide.
Kids can observe how their parents interact long before teen dating comes into their consciousness. The home is a place that demonstrates issues like respect, compromise, privacy and assertive behavior between parents. Parents usually have arguments that are usually resolved in a compromise, with a little give and take on both sides. These are social skills that will help young adults to adjust in the teen dating scene.
You have to approach teen dating with confidence. It is your duty to give supportive guidance without being intrusive and to keep them safe. It would be a good idea to encourage double dates or group activities for starters. For instance, both girls and boys will become more relaxed with one another and just have fun through a double date at the county fair. Another good choice would be a group of boys and girls going bowling or to the skating rink. These group dating activities will help them build confidence in teen dating.
You also have to keep in mind that teenager are very sensitive about the subject of teen dating. You have to carefully let them know that you'll be there for them without fostering an atmosphere of intrusiveness on your part. It is also very important to respect their privacy. There will be times when they won't want to talk about every little thing. However, they'll eventually come to you for your advice and opinions if you respect their privacy.
